A day in the life of Ana, Head of Operations (North)
Ana Beja, Head of Operations (North)
Hi, I’m Ana, and I look after our North services at Wellgate.
Every day in my role is different. It’s busy, sometimes challenging, but always rewarding. I work closely with our teams, learning together and always looking for ways to improve.
I want our services to be the best places to live and work, with people at the centre of it all.
“My focus is simple. To make our services the best places to live and work, with people at the heart of everything.”
Most days, I start by checking in on what’s happening across our services. I catch up with teams, follow up on anything from overnight, and make sure everything is running smoothly. After that, the day can take me anywhere.
Supporting our service managers is a big part of what I do. I’m here to listen, guide, and help them handle whatever comes up. Some days we tackle challenges together. Other days, we talk things through or celebrate a win, whether it’s a big milestone or a small moment that matters. This support helps create a positive environment for both our colleagues and the people we support.
“That support is key to creating positive environments for both colleagues and the people we support.”
It always comes back to people. Our teams and the people we support are at the centre of everything. Everyone has their own story, goals, and potential. I’m proud to help create places where people feel safe, settled, and at home, where they can grow in confidence and live the lives they choose.
“Everyone has their own story, goals and potential.”
The same is true for our teams. They deserve to feel respected, supported, and able to grow in their careers.
“They should feel respected, supported and able to grow their careers.”
I also work closely with different teams and partners. I spend time with HR to make sure we build teams that share our values and have the support they need. I work with local authorities to make sure we’re the right fit for each person and meet our community’s needs. We also make sure we meet all the standards expected in social care, including CQC requirements.
I love what I do, but I’ll be honest, it’s not always easy. Some days involve tough conversations and hard decisions. But every day has great moments too. Seeing someone move into a new home and settle in, watching confidence grow, or seeing teams support each other, those moments keep me going.
“Those are the moments that keep me focused.”
Outside of work…
I’m a mum to two girls, and they inspire me every day. I want them to grow up believing they can do anything they set their minds to.
I feel the same way about our teams. I want Wellgate to be a place where people feel supported, valued, and confident, and where they can build a career they’re proud of. When colleagues feel this way, they can give their best to the people we support.
“When colleagues feel supported and valued, they can give their best to the people we support.”
At the end of the day, that’s what this role is all about—making sure the people in our care feel safe, respected, and supported to live their best lives.
“That’s what this role is really about. Making sure people feel safe, respected and supported to live their best lives.”
That’s what matters most to me.
