July’s Shout Outs are too good to scroll past
By Ash Akhtar, Head of Culture and Engagement (Club Director)
This July, we've had lots of shout-outs. So before we get into who deserves one, it's worth asking: why does this keep happening, and why does it matter?
You can read about Sophie, brand new to care assistant but already trusted by name by three separate service users. About Alfie, who a tenant's grandma has specifically asked to keep supporting her grandson. About Janaya and Kishore, who started a full-blown ice cream rivalry between two homes just to make residents smile, and Saru and Hayley, who weren't going to let them win. About teams who opened their doors to us for days of filming, on top of an already full day job, so we could show what care actually looks like. This is the kind of behaviour that gets noticed, and someone says it out loud and recognises it.
That's what a shout-out is for. It's not a perk bolted onto the job; it's how we show each other that what we do day-to-day is worth it and gets noticed, and that it matters, whether that's a resident, a tenant, a teammate, or a manager.
What we're actually building
A shout-out is small on its own. Enough of them, and they start to build something bigger: a culture where people feel like they belong, not just employed.
That's the whole point of Club Wellgate. Compassion shows up in how Sophie supports the people she works with. Independence shows up in Alfie helping tenants get to Judo and speech and language sessions on their own terms. Standards show up in Bex learning to run audits and a rota within weeks of stepping into a new role.
Recognition is how we make sure none of that goes unseen.
Anyone can send one
You don't need to be a manager to notice something brilliant. If you're proud of a teammate, a deputy manager, a team leader, someone in head office, your head of operations, someone in HR or marketing, or a Club Rep who's gone above and beyond, tell us.
Email ash.akhtar@clubwellgate.com with who, what they did, and why it mattered. We'll take it from there.
Keep them coming.
