Keeping safety at the heart of what we do: A catch-up with Jo
In February, I visited Folkestone and caught up with our Service Manager, Jo Matthews. She was busy leading a training session, teaching the team how to handle manual handling, buckles, and hoists.
Watching her made me appreciate the effort that goes into getting things right. While we call it "compliance," seeing it in practice shows it's about helping people stay independent.
Doing things the right way, for the right reasons
At Wellgate, we set high standards because those we care for deserve the best. Following procedures isn’t just about rules; it’s about safety and kindness. When our teams use a hoist or buckle well, those we support feel comfortable and respected. This helps them live freely, knowing they are well cared for.
Proud of our teams
Jo has been travelling across the country and shared how much she enjoys meeting everyone in person. Whether giving a quick refresher or training someone new, she’s been impressed by our staff’s attitude.
"I’m honestly so proud of the colleagues I’ve met," Jo told me. "I see people who have been in care for years sitting alongside people who started yesterday, and every single one of them is giving it their full attention. They know this really matters for the people we support."
Watch the video
We filmed a short video so Jo could explain why this training is so important to our values. It’s a good look at how we keep our standards high and our care personal.
Need a refresher?
Jo is always available if you have a question or want to go over a procedure again. No question is too small when it comes to keeping our residents and teams safe.
A big thank you to Jo for everything she does to keep us compliant, safe, and above all, caring.
