September Shout Outs recognising everyday moments

By Ash Akhtar, Head of Culture and Engagement (Club Director)

Ash Akhtar

In this September’s Shout Outs, read about Donna, who swapped care work for the kitchen at Tristford and taught herself to bake in her spare time.

About Winnie, Lisa and Rachel, who stayed calm and focused during an incident that was completely out of the norm for The Limes. About Rebecca, who’s been welcomed with open arms by the team at Brickyard Court.

About Sharon and Joanne at The Old Printers, both recognised again and again by the people they support for how approachable and dependable they are.

Lilly Miller — Shout Out by Donna Ribeiro, Deputy Manager, Sandgate Manor

Lilly brings infectious enthusiasm and warmth to our home, consistently brightening residents' days and always willing to help anyone. Lilly is a joy to work with.

Maisy Sait — Shout Out by Donna Ribeiro, Deputy Manager, Sandgate Manor

Maisy always goes the extra mile and is more than happy to help whenever she can, even at short notice. Her positive attitude and cheerful nature are infectious, and she always manages to put a smile on everyone's face. We're so lucky to have her as part of the team. 💛

Sofi Taylor - Shout Out by Terry Loftus, Service Manager, Buttercup Close & The Lodge

Sofi started with Wellgate only a couple of months ago and has quickly become an invaluable team member and so popular with all tenants. She has even received a written compliment from one gentleman who is a self-confessed 'grump' and usually takes a bit of time to warm to anyone!

Donna Chapman — Shout Out by Adam Lancaster, Service Manager, Tristford House

Donna has recently become the cook at Tristford after working as a care assistant. She's adapting well to her new role in the kitchen, getting to grips with the paperwork, and producing food the residents love, catering to all requests. Donna's also becoming a bit of a baker, with a little help from Google, and she's even been practising in her spare time.

Emma Wilson and Emily Moore — Shout Out by Helen Dyball, Head of HR

Emily and Emma have both gone above and beyond to support me through an incredibly busy period, really pulling together and working as a team to make sure people services are delivered professionally and on time, and mostly with a smile. Thank you so much.

Adam Lowton — Shout Out by Amanda Loughlin, Vale House

Adam is our newest team member and has taken the initiative, adapting well to his new role. We wanted to nominate him for the shout-out because he reorganised our office space and brought a really jovial energy to the workplace.

The night shift team — Shout Out by Craig Roettig, Deputy Manager, Lime Lodge

I’d like to nominate the staff on shift (Winnie, Lisa and Rachel) at The Limes. We recently had a complex incident that was completely out of the norm for The Limes, and all staff dealt with the situation extremely well. I have to say, I'm very proud of them.

The team at Brickyard Court — Shout Out by Rebecca Lee, Team Leader

For welcoming me with such a positive attitude in my new role at Brickyard. All staff took the time to show me around and made me feel so welcome.

A few weeks ago, management asked me to move, and I asked for time to think about it. In the end, I realised change is sometimes a good thing. I'd worked at The Grafton since day one, helped all the people we support move in, and welcomed all the staff who still work there now. Over the years, I've had so many experiences at The Grafton, and I still have so much to learn, so meeting new people felt like part of that, and I thought, let's go for it.

I've now met all the people we support at Brickyard, and I'm looking forward to supporting them and getting to know them more. All the staff have been amazing. I felt like a new starter all over again, but they've taken the time to introduce me to everyone, and each of them has been so hands-on in helping me settle in. I've had such a good week.

Sharon Kiernan — shouted out by Sophie Harrison, Service Manager, The Old Printers

Sharon has received compliments from the team around her work with the people we support. She always brings a "can do" attitude, gets on with her work to an excellent standard, and the outcomes achieved with the people we support speak volumes. She's a great member of the team.

Joanne Moores — shouted out by Sophie Harrison, Service Manager, The Old Printers

Joanne is a trusted member of the team over at Wheelock Cottage. She's received compliments from the people we support this week during a social care review, saying she's very approachable and has helped them settle into their new home. She's committed to her role with the people we support, raises concerns promptly, and adjusts her communication style to each person. Thanks, Joanne. 😊

Ash Akhtar — Shout Out by Millie Powell, Head of Marketing

This month, we celebrated our very first Club Wellgate Recognition Awards, hosted by our Club Director, Ash. And there's even more to celebrate: Ash reached his one-year anniversary at Wellgate, and his birthday was on 23 September.

Since joining us, Ash has made a huge impact across Club Wellgate. He created a brand-new website for the club, a place where colleagues can share stories, celebrate recognition, and find out more about everything Club Wellgate has to offer. Ash also introduced our Monthly Update, helping keep colleagues informed and connected with organisational updates, recognition, videos, and more.

The Club Wellgate Awards were a real testament to Ash's hard work, dedication and meticulous planning. His passion for celebrating colleagues and encouraging recognition across our services is clear. Ash always champions others and creates opportunities for colleagues to be recognised, so it was time we recognised him for his amazing work and dedication to improving the culture here at Wellgate.

Thank you, Ash, for everything you do, and congratulations on your one-year anniversary. Here's to many more milestones, celebrations and achievements ahead.

Why do we do this every month?

A shout-out is a small action on its own. But when we do enough of them, they build something bigger: a culture where people feel appreciated and like they belong, not just employed. Recognition makes sure none of that goes unseen.

Remember, you don't need to be a manager to notice something brilliant. If you're proud of a teammate, a deputy manager, a team leader, someone in the head office, or a Club Rep who's gone above and beyond, email ash.akhtar@clubwellgate.com with who, what they did, and why it mattered. We'll take it from there.

Keep them coming.
